Millions of young people across the Middle East and North Africa region do not have access to education or employment opportunities; as a result, such young individuals find themselves unable to face today’s challenging global and local economies, and contribute to their communities.

As part of Starbucks’s ongoing mission to create pathways to opportunity for young people, Starbucks in the Middle East and North Africa introduced “Opportunity Café” as an initiative to bridge young people and opportunities in order to help them become more economically active in their communities.

Through partnerships with specialised organisations, Opportunity Cafe brings experts on youth employability, education and entrepreneurship to stores in neighbourhoods across the MENA region during the month of April to share knowledge and resources with local youth over a cup of coffee.

This initiative comes as a continuation to Starbucks’s Global Month of Service, which was introduced by Starbucks globally as an opportunity for Starbucks partners (employees) and customers to engage and serve their local communities every year during the month of April. Writing a successful CV that captures employers' interest is an early obstacle facing youth when they attempt to enter the job market. While this obstacle appears to be simple on the surface, the lack of CV writing skills remains to be a predominant issue worldwide and in the MENA region, preventing many young people from meeting their employment objectives.

In coalition with M.H.  Alshaya Co., Education For Employment and Bayt.com, Starbucks MENA hosted the region’s largest CV counselling event in 30 stores across ten countries in the Middle East and North Africa region on April 18, 2016.

This event aimed to equip young people seeking to enter the job market for the first time with the necessary skills to develop their CV and present it to potential employers. Through this partnership, coalition members deployed specialised trainers to select Starbucks stores, where young people were invited to reserve their seats and attend in order to benefit and take their first step towards their future.
